Telkomsel is Indonesia’s largest mobile network operator and one of the most influential telecommunications brands in Southeast Asia. Established as a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia—which owns 65% of the company—Telkomsel also has Singapore Telecommunications Limited as a strategic partner, holding the remaining 35% through Singapore Telecom Mobile Pte.

Meaning and History
The Telkomsel brand officially began its journey in 1995 when it was incorporated in Jakarta. Since then, the company has achieved a number of major milestones that helped shape its leadership in the Indonesian telecom market.

1995–2021
The company’s earliest visual identity combined a bold wordmark with a technical-looking emblem. The symbol resembled an atom made of two intersecting grey rings, forming a white cross at the center, enclosed within a red hexagon. This geometric shape hinted at precision and connectivity while also reflecting the red-and-white colors of Indonesia.
The wordmark was set in tall, italicized black letters—simple in style yet strong and forward-leaning.
2021–Today
The 2021 redesign introduced a more minimalist look. The logo became a clean red wordmark in a modern sans-serif typeface with smooth rounded corners. A small angled cut on the “T” adds a subtle detail, but the overall aesthetic focuses on simplicity and brand clarity. The updated style feels softer, more contemporary, and easier to adapt across digital platforms.
Symbol
The traditional Telkomsel symbol can be broken down into three elements:

– Two intersecting grey-and-white rings circling the hexagon
– The italicized Telkomsel wordmark to the right
The sharp color contrast between red, grey, and black enhances readability and creates a polished, high-tech feel.
Emblem
Below the main logo, the emblem of Telkom Indonesia is often displayed, emphasizing the brand’s parent company. The Telkom Indonesia symbol features a grey-and-white ring positioned above a stylized red hand motif, accompanied by the company name in black.
Both logos share similar shapes and colors, which helps maintain visual unity. Before 2013, the Telkom Indonesia emblem used a blue-yellow palette that clashed with Telkomsel’s identity, but the updated design fixed this inconsistency.
Font
The Telkomsel wordmark is based on a bold italic sans-serif typeface. Its slanted structure pairs well with the angled shapes of the emblem. The style is reminiscent of Kropotkin Condensed Bold Oblique, TeX Gyre Heros Bold Italic, or Rude Condensed Bold Italic, though the exact typeface has unique modifications.
The smaller “by Telkom Indonesia” tagline uses a simpler, upright sans-serif font.

Colors
Telkomsel’s color palette centers around a vivid red that symbolizes energy, strength, and reliability. It is paired with light and dark shades of grey, as well as black, depending on the version of the logo. The primary red closely resembles hex #E81E28, while the greys fall near #A3A3A3 and #303030.
In alternative versions, the background becomes red and the lettering switches to white for contrast.
